Onboarding on Azure and GCP: Leveraging Your Namecheap Domain

In today's post, I'm excited to share the journey of onboarding onto Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using the domain name we recently purchased from Namecheap. This guide will walk you through the process step-by-step, from setting up our Outlook account to configuring our cloud services. Let's dive in and make the most of our new domain!

Step 1: Setting Up an Outlook Account

Before we get started with the cloud platforms, we created an Outlook account. This email will serve as our primary contact for all cloud-related services.

Step 2: Purchasing a Domain on Namecheap

We needed a custom domain to use with our cloud services. Here’s a quick recap of how we got our domain:

  1. Visit Namecheap: Head over to Namecheap and sign up for an account.

  2. Search for a Domain: Use the search bar to find the perfect domain name that suits your needs.

  3. Select and Purchase: Add the domain to your cart and complete the purchase. Make sure to configure the DNS settings as required.

Step 3: Onboarding onto Azure

With our domain ready, we proceeded to onboard onto Azure:

  1. Visit Azure Portal: Go to the Azure Portal and sign in using our Outlook account (chidinmacloud@outlook.com).

  2. Create a Tenant:

    • Default Name and Tenant ID: Azure assigns a default tenant name and tenant ID.

    • Custom Domain Name: Under the custom name settings, input the domain we purchased from Namecheap (tedcloud.online).

Here’s a detailed walkthrough:

  • Azure Active Directory: Navigate to Azure Active Directory in the Azure Portal.

  • Custom Domain Names: Click on "Custom Domain Names" and add your Namecheap domain (tedcloud.online).

  • Verify Domain: Follow the verification process by adding the DNS record provided by Azure to your Namecheap account.

Step 4: Onboarding onto GCP

Next, we onboarded onto GCP using the same Namecheap domain:

  1. Visit GCP Console: Go to the Google Cloud Console and sign in using your Google account.

  2. Create a Project: Start by creating a new project in the GCP console.

  3. Add Custom Domain:

    • Navigate to Domains: Go to the "Domains" section in the Google Cloud Console.

    • Add Your Domain: Input the domain name purchased from Namecheap (tedcloud.online).

    • Verify Domain: Follow the verification instructions provided by Google, which involves adding a DNS record to your Namecheap account.

    • Using Draw.io for Architectural Visualization

      To visualize the steps taken using Draw.io, to break down the entire process into a flowchart for more understanding of the process.
